Elphie is intersex, trans (the book states that she chose to be a woman regardless of what her genitalia looked like at birth), bi and/or lesbian (depending on your interpretation of her relationships with Glinda and Fiyero) and I love that for her!!!

Elphaba Thropp from The Wizard of Oz series is canonically intersex in the novel Wicked (1995)! Her exact variation and traits aren't specified, but it can be inferred she has ambiguous genitalia, and may have experienced IGM.

Pride Month Art 2025: GELPHIE

I have been reading Gelphie Fanfics for 5 WEEKS in counting! And I’m suppose to finish this art earlier this month, BUT NOOOO, THE DANG WICKED: For Good TRAILER HAD ME ON CHOKEHOLD! And got me on my knees, and literally had me on the edge of mental breakdown. What more when the movie comes out at November 19 (Here in Philippines, the showing of the movie is quite advance) and it’s AFTER MY BIRTHDAY (November 16).

Yep, for my birthday celebration. I will gonna be wrecked emotionally. And I HAVE NO IDEA IF I COULD RECOVER FROM IT.

I can’t imagine how unbearable it must’ve been for her to sit underneath the trapdoor listening to Glinda’s screams after the “melting”☹️☹️☹️

thinking of elphie sobbing as she hugs glinda for one last time, being wrecked with guilt over what she's done and about to do

everyone talks abt how glinda has regrets because we see her in nomtw and she's objectively in the moral wrong for her complicity in the wizard's regime, but elphie has just as many regrets as glinda in that moment

elphie gave up everything her fight against the wizard. not just her chance at being loved and adored by oz, but her closest relationships. her unwavering sense of justice means she's willing to sacrifice anything for the greater good, even if it means destroying her friendship with glinda

but in the end, where does that get her? nessa's dead, fiyero's "dead," and pre-kiamo ko her relationship with glinda all but collapses in on itself like a dying star. she's changed so much; she hardly recognizes herself anymore. there's a crying child in her basement she's threatened to murder. a mob is coming to fucking kill her and there's nothing she can do to stop it

and here's glinda, who despite everything still went to kiamo ko to extend one last olive branch, even after elphie left her, even after elphie stole her fiancé, even after elphie proved that she really is just as wicked as everyone thinks she is, begging elphie to let her stand beside her and clear her name

but elphie knows it's too late, and after everything that's happened, everything she's lost, she can't lose glinda anymore than she already has. elphie only breaks everything she loved and cared about, and she's already hurt glinda enough

so they're sharing one last hug and all elphie can think about is how much she loves glinda, how badly she wants to be with her, how if she only listened to her one of those times maybe things could've been different
